said i love you said goodbye walked into the night as something in me died a new beginning here at the end turning the page while my heart is on the mend feeling crazy i’ve lost my mind as i pick up pieces of myself and throw them up to the sky feeling empty but that’s alright nothing to hold me back i’m on this path under the moonlight said i love you said hello looked into myself and found that something grows a new rhythm but a familiar tune awakening the parts of me i never knew i feel so nervous but it feels right as i jump into the great wide open with no landing in sight feel like i’m floating and full of life embracing change and letting go just take that first step on to the other side keep it moving forward don’t hesitate just take it all in stride and ride get up get down get low get high

all that exists won't last forever all that is created will be destroyed ain't nothing you can do about it time will always turn but knowing doesn't make a difference when it's time to let go we leave our footprints on the trail and then the rain washes them away we try our best to live until our last day but will all those who come around after we are gone know we were here today? there's a canyon a crack in the earth so deep & long in the mountains of my love they split in two where the ground crumbled right out from beneath you and now a river flows right through i'll cry for you forever and ever the sky is so wide you are my starry night when you left this life did our love die?

about

LUPA: 'earth, land' in Tagalog; 'she-wolf' in Latin; 'forget, lost' in Indonesian; 'magnifying glass' in Spanish

Lupa is a testament to life through the portals of grief, joy, memory, and presence, channeled by the creative vision of singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and collaborator Elenna Canlas. Drawing influences from electro & psychedelic funk, global roots & folk, to alt-pop and R&B, Lupa's familiar yet fresh atmosphere weaves layers of lush quirky vocals over a deep heavy foundation, builds sonic altars and landscapes inspired by natural forces and kin, and centers its dynamic universe in the celebration of revolution and kapwa. ᜎᜓᜉ

Elenna Canlas is based on Lenape & Canarsie lands in Brooklyn NYC and has become a positive force in music culture through over a decade of recording and touring across the globe as a keyboardist, synthesist, vocalist, and music director supporting a multitude of artists and bands including Allison Russell, Cochemea, Xenia Rubinos, Miles Francis, Lollise, Kirsty Rock, Sinkane, Underground System, and Easy Star All-Stars. She is an alumna of the 2022 OneBeat Sahara cultural exchange fellowship alongside musician culture bearers from the USA and the Maghreb & Sahel regions of North Africa, and has dedicated herself to being an organizer, facilitator, & advocate in co-founding Womxn Musicians Forum, a circle that aims to inspire change, empowerment, and to address the challenges and issues faced by women in music communities around the world through storytelling and connection.
